Back to enjoying the self

This week I’ve been stepping back into doing the things I LOVE! The things I never stopped doing however have been too busy to enjoy. For example, I make my tonic elixirs every morning yet rarely sit down to enjoy them. This week I sat down in the park by my home with the dogs. I felt the sunshine on my face. I placed my hand on little Rodgers fast beating heart and I thanked Louis for being my husband with fur for eleven loyal years.

It felt nice. I felt comforted knowing my little fur babies and I have so much appreciation for each other.

After a nice workout I had the joy of creating a few dehydrated treats.The crackers you see were made from left over juicing pulp, herbs and pumpkin seeds. The raw sweet balls are made from dates, coconut, almonds, spices and walnuts.

I’m enjoying them now while listening to the sound of an ice creme truck. I feel zero depravation. Zero! Subscribe to my YouTube channel to get hundreds of free recipes.

Around three my long time web security friend came over. I hadn’t met up with him in almost five years. We sat down at my dining room table and had a glass of my favorite water. I told him what I needed and he was able to scan both of my sites locating problems within minutes. We placed a plan in motion to implicate a strategy to achieve my goals and to place security measures in place that I didn’t even know existed.

When he left, I drew a card from my favorite oracle deck and this is what came out. I had a smile from ear to ear:)

How to Make a Quick Anti-aging Energy Boosting Tonic~Your weekly mojo!

Mmmm! What am I drinking on this beautiful Sunday morning? What do I drink every morning? Delicious antioxidant packed, anti-aging Matcha tea! I feel that I owe a huge part of my skin health to drinking this tea daily for the last decade!

And rightfully so! Just look at all of the health properties in matcha!

I did my first solo headstand!

Always believe in yourself knowing “as you think, you will become”! Yesterday was a tough day for me! What started off as a positive ended up as one of the worst days ever. Still, I managed to force myself to go to yoga. My mind needed an escape from the endless chatter going on around me.

Head stands are NOT my strong suit! I have what is called a reverse cervical spine. Basically it means my neck is bent almost in the opposite direction. This happened after a severe car accident a few years back when my head hit the windshield. I have no scars no visible injuries and so to the average person I look normal. But when my neck goes out I’m down for days. And doing a headstand just isn’t always the best thing for a reverse cervical. That being said a few years back I met a fellow Yogi who had mastered his headstands and he too had a reverse cervical! His was much worse than mine. This motivated me to know that this was all in my mind that I couldn’t do this… This headstand thing. 

Yesterday after class I asked Tracy one of the owners of the yoga studio I go to Yoga Tropics to help me. To be honest with you other than a photo shoot about a month ago I’ve never been able to do it on my own. She tried to teach me how to do it just by putting my head down first and then allowing my body to lift itself up feeling weightless. She then tried to show me a second method when I failed at the first. I’m not sure but I think she could tell that I had a weak neck and upper arm strength. She placed the blocks under my shoulders and I was off and running!

I cried the entire way home. And although I didn’t return home to loving open arms, smiling faces and friendly chatter I will say that yesterday’s accomplishments has me motivated to build my upper arm strength and to see a chiropractor on a more regular basis to get my neck back in the best shape possible. 

To finish, complete and to succeed! They really are the only things I know how to do! No other way is acceptable! SO MANY have much worse injuries than mine! Once you see someone who cannot walk, stand or jump…. There aren’t any excuses! I truly believe ALL of us can do and create AMAZING things…ONLY if we believe we can! Remembering that as we think, we will become!

I’m headed to the gym to get my pump on with the man~pan~ion!  Did I mention that matcha gives me a hands down advantage in my workouts too?! Sure does! Have a beautiful productive week! Hit the farmers market today & drink your green juice! Oh and drink your matcha too!

Another week! Are you ready? What if I were to make a promise to you? Yes, a big promise! Read this E-mail from top to bottom and I promise you if you either make one of my recipes or do the “soul exercise” below, You will have the BEST week ever!

MIND

Have you ever felt like you’ve been there for someone over and over again? Then, when you need a shoulder to cry on or a listening ear you are shunned away or even worse, screamed at or told you are being ridiculous? Instead of allowing you to FEEL, you are being told your feelings are NOT important!

When someone is in battle with their mind, self~worth or self esteem, treat them with love not contempt. Love works both ways. To be loved you must show up & openly give of yourself without expectations or desiring something in return. Even when you just don’t feel like it! If someone doesn’t allow you to feel your feelings, they are essentially telling you that you don’t matter! Thats not compassion or love! You can have a positive mindset about your life but you will always have down days. Surround yourself only with the people who lift you up when you are at your worst! The ones who are there for you, ready to listen with an open compassionate heart! With that kind of support your down days will become less and less and the good days will fill up your calendar!

Here we are, another beautiful week! More positive posts, quotes etc! What if I told you that I’m not going to stream a bunch of positivity your way this morning? What if I told you that I’m leaving to care for someone who is only in his 40’s with cancer? what if I told you that I feel that virtually all degenerative disease has to do with whats on your plate, the health of your gut flora, your environment & what chemicals you CHOOSE to rub onto your body everyday?

I don’t have to tell you! I have a feeling you already know this and you’re still choosing to make poor choices. You can lead a person or an entire tribe to the truth that you can expect them all to follow!

My only wish, my only prayer that my only vision for all of you on this Monday morning is that you begin to take that true that you all know and apply it in your daily lives! Especially at the meals that you make for yourself and for your family!

Don’t believe the hype you’re being taught in the “Got Milk” ads, the fast food commercials the “high protein” pushers!

Change your food and your life will follow! I believe in you, I’m in your corner and I’m rooting for you every step of the way!

This week I would love for you to try this soul exercise! Think about a time in your life when you were criticized. I know this may be hard but I promise you I’m going somewhere with it! Ok, when you have that moment in your mind, I would like you to think about how it made you FEEL at the time! Were you sad? Angry? Go ahead and feel that in your heart. Once you feel those same feelings again, imagine a white light that enters your body and goes straight to your heart space. It literally is there to clear those negative feelings from your body! Kale & Coconut chip Recipes! Why you should make your own!

Hi Beautiful Health Warrior

Lately I’ve been getting a ton of questions from you guys about kale chips and coconut chips! They are snacks that are highly available on the market today with a hefty little price tag! I’m answering your questions below

1) Are they healthy? Well kale chips and coconut chips are healthy however the store bought brands are often laden with both sodium & fat!

2) Do I make my own? I do! They are pictured below and I guarantee you they are 100 times better tasting than any you can get in the store! I tend to make these on my “Food prep Sundays”! I’m shooting a video series on “Food Prep Sundays” right now!


 

My kale & coconut chips-)

Kale & coconut chips are EASY to make yourself! Just do it! I know you can!

 

 

Andrea’s SUPER CHEESY kale chips!
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to every 1/2 head of kale
  • 3 heaping tablespoons of nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine grain sea salt or pink Himalayan sea salt
  •  (optional) 1TB of sweet miso Directions:
  1. I actually pre heat my dehydrator to about 118 degrese

    Kale is FULL of minerals!

  2. Some people remove the stems. If you choose to, you can save the stems for your morning juice. I leave my stems on however. Wash and spin the kale until thoroughly dry.
  3. Add kale leaves into a large bowl. Massage in the coconut oil and sweet miso until all the nooks and crannies are coated. Now sprinkle on the spices/seasonings and toss to combine.
  4. Spread out the kale onto the prepared dehydrating sheet. Be sure not to overcrowd the kale. Just like men~It needs space:)
  5. Dehydrate for one hour, rotate the kale & then place it back into the dehydrator for 1 more hour until the kale begins to firm up. The kale will look shrunken, but this is normal.
  6. Cool the kale on the sheet for 3 minutes before DEVOURING! This really makes all the difference! Enjoy immediately as they lose their crispiness over time.

Feel free to make these in an oven too! Just keep the oven at about 300F and watch them closely! I bake mine in the oven for about 25 minutes total!

7 Tips! Manage Your Time While Benefitting Your Health!

Hi there beautiful! 🙂 I have three important questions for you today! How do you manage your time? Are you managing it properly, with balance? Do you have trouble saying the word “no”?

Time management is a delicate & difficult balance for many people! Each new day that the sun comes up we are offered another oppurtunity to spend our time wisely! Yet so many of us don’t take advantage of our time! Instead, we end up upset with ourselves and short with others by the end of each day. We wonder, where did the day go? Why have I accomplished so little? Why am I so exhausted?

I turned down plans this past weekend and I’m happy I did. I chose not to overextend myself and said no so that I could spend the weekend cleaning & organizing my entire home! Every nook, inside every cabinet and every closet! I’ve managed to get the downstairs done but there’s so much more to go. I’ve decided it’s time for me to shift my energy and move to a different location. Change is always proven to be a BIG positive for me! I’m ready! Being a recovered procrastinator, I knew it was time to do a “time~management~healthy mind/ body overhaul” once again!

7 TIPS! Manage Your Time While Benefitting Your Health! 

1) HEALHY TIP ~ Sip your morning green juice out of a bowl or mug while getting things done! See my juice in the photo above? That way you don’t risk rushing it down like some type of cold brewski! Instead you’ll find you sip it like a warm soup or hot cocoa & it doesn’t give you a “pregnancy belly” from drinking it too fast!

2) TIME MANAGEMENT TIP ~ Keep everything clean and organized in your home! Remember that old saying “everything has a place”? Well, it does! While cleaning my home this past weekend I was astonished of what I found! Everything from family photos to baking dishes! Create a space for EVERYTHING in your home, memorize where you place things or keep a list and ALWAYS put items back in that place! My mother has always done this and I’m here to tell you when your home is completely organized you will feel MUCH better!

3) HEALTHY MIND TIP ~ Limit your time with those who don’t have a clue as to how to manage their time effectively! You know who I’m talking about! These are the people who are always rushing around and EXTREMELY busy yet they accomplish very little. Allowing these people into your life will rob you of your time and zap you of your energy! You’ll end up with broken plans and less time of your own!

4) HEALTHY TIP ~ Utilize the time you spend cleaning and organizing your home as a time to detox! I like to sip only juice while I clean and make it a day of what I call “A cleaning cleanse”! Your body and your mind will thank you for this! You could always reward yourself with a nice healthy meal and a decadent dark chocolate bar that evening! After you are finished & everything is “in it’s place” of course!

5) TIME MANAGEMENT TIP ~ Utilize a timer! I LOVE this tip my mother Bonnie gave me years ago when I was struggling with managing my time! My mother is the Queen of getting things done! She told me to set a timer of when I wanted to have a task completed! I began doing this and WOHA! This single thing changed my life! This also works great if you find you are sitting at home “working” and have trouble getting off to the gym! Set that timer for the exact time you want to leave by!

6) HEALTHY MIND TIP ~ Reward yourself for completing tasks! Ahh I love this one! Keep in mind this doesn’t have to be a reward of a new dress or a big gluten free cookie! As an entrepreneur I had noticed I would often  isolate myself & end up with a mildly depressed mood by three pm if I was “still at home working”! I always reward myself by being around others! Now, I simply schedule my yoga for 4:30 to interact with others after a long work day! Sometimes I’ll schedule an evening walk with a girlfriend or a date night out! All three things mentioned above feel like rewards to me! I always see a day of accomplishments ending with a day of positive interactions as a rewarding spirality rich productive day!

7) TIME MANAGEMENT TIP ~ Don’t keep a To Do list! Keep a planner or online calendar instead! I’ve read several articles that sate the most successful people DO NOT keep To Do lists! Instead, they have a notebook handy at ALL times and utilize an online calendar or a planner! I’m proud to say I’ve done this all my life! YAY!

Five reasons to eat figs!

Ahhhh FIGS! Figs have long been touted upon as being the fruit that represents ABUNDANCE, FERTILITY & SWEETNESS! No wonder they are my favorite food out of EVERY food on the planet!

Look at this DIVINE plate of fresh figs! They are in season in the winter months here in California and I absolutely LOVE them! In fact, I’ve been known to consume them daily! The early Olympic athletes used figs as a training food! Fresh Figs were also presented as a prize to the winners, becoming the first Olympic “medal.” Just three large plump fresh figs contain only roughly 130 calories (if you follow me you know calories don’t matter anyway)! They also contain 5.5 grams of dietary fiber! That’s more fiber than one cup of oatmeal!

This was a pre~yoga late brunch meal for me today!!! For me, there is nothing quite like a plate of organic figs from my local farmer! This is one of my favorite fruits of the season! I love to sprinkle them with ginger cinnamon and a little bit of Celtic Sea salt for a late afternoon pre-dinner delight! Enjoy this delicious raw vegan scrumptious treat on an EMPTY stomach for optimal digestion!

FIVE REASON TO EAT FIGS!

1) Figs are FULL of vitamins & minerals including vitamins A, K and vitamin C!

2) They can be used a s a fat replacement in baked goods~without the fat!

3) They taste SO GOOD! If you’ve not tried figs I encourage you to do so! They are considered to be a “sweet” fruit! Much like a date~ they are like eating candy!

4) They are high in fiber and provide AMAZING digestive properties!

5) Figs are great for your ovaries ladies! Yep thats right! If you look closely at a fig when split open you will see they look a bit like the ovaries as well!

In Rome figs are considered to be restorative! They are believed to increase the strength & known to maintain the health of the elderly! Figs also are believed to make the elderly look younger with fewer wrinkles!

So lets be more like the Romans and eat a plethora of fresh figs while they are in season! If you’re like me, you’ll be find a way to sneak the dried whens during the summer too! Enjoy!

Ten minute Pumpkin fig chia cocoa cookies!

Hey everyone! Wow am I hearing A LOT about pumpkin! Is it just me or does every Holiday revolve around pumpkin these days? I like pumpkin just as much as the next person but geese!

If you’re anything like me you also have noticed it’s FIG SEASON! I LOVE figs! So much so that I ate them every day last year while they were in season! YEP!

In this recipe up on my blog TODAY I combine the best of both worlds! I didn’t quite know what to call them so I just called them what they are “Pumpkin Fig Chia cookies”!!! The suprize bitter and salty component in these will rock your taste buds! I took these to a party last week and they were gone within ten minutes!

Ten minute Pumpkin fig chia cocoa cookies!

2 Cups dried figs soaked for 2-3 hours in good water

1 Fresh Fig (Ripe)

3 TB chia seeds (not soaked)

4-5 TB of Cocoa nibs (I prefer SunFood) 

2 Cups & 2 TB dried coconut shreds

1 tsp Pumpkin Pie spice (HA gotcha didn’t I ~ You thought I was using real pumpkin!:) Told you I’m burnt out on Pumpkin! 

a pinch of cayanne

1 tsp pink sea salt or any “good” quality rock salt

Step 1 Toss all of this yummy RAW ORGANIC goodness into a food processor and blend! You may slowly add some of the liquid used to soak the figs in as well! This will provide the moisture to the cookies. Don’t pour too much:) If you do, you will simply add more shredded coconut to dry the recipe up a bit! 

Step 2 Take spoon full of your mixture into your hands and form into balls. Once the balls are formed split into three groups and place into three different plastic bags.

Step 3 Once the balls are in each bag you will want to take one cup of chia and pour into one bag. Next take shredded coconut (one cup) into another bag. For the last bag take one cup of large crushed keltic sea salt! Shake the balls in each bag until each ball is covered in the different ingredient! 

EAT THOSE BALLS! YUMMY! EAT THEM WITHOUT SHAME OR GUILT KNOWING YOU ARE FEEDING YOUR BODY LIVE FOOD THAT WILL HEAL YOU ON A CELLULAR LEVEL! Trust me~ I know stuff:)
