The benefits of taking a Digital Detox

After feeling “looked at by many but known by few” I decided to turn my cell phone off over the weekend. I did this to reconnect with God. To reconnect with my yoga practice, my animals, and myself. I made the conscious choice of rediscovering the benefits of a Digital Detox.

I had my VA post to my stories for me and didn’t share anything on my platforms. I have also disconnected the messenger apps for Instagram and Facebook. This way, all messages go to my VA instead of me.

My discoveries…

Having trouble completing projects? I completed a home project and two business projects that I simply couldn’t find the time for prior. A headache that I began to get a few months ago disappeared. I reconnected with a friend I haven’t seen in years. I hit my yoga mat every morning consistently.

With all this newfound time on my hands, I decided to research the symptoms of people who truly needed a Digital Detox! My findings were alarming though not shocking!

Six Signs You Need a Digital Detox

1) You spend more time than intended on your devices.


2) You feel guilt/dissatisfaction afterward or like you just don’t measure up in society.


3) You are suddenly motivated by a fear of missing out or you feel like you are not producing enough in your business or career.

4) You experience sudden urges to check your social media (how many likes, comments, etc.)


5) You never have enough time in your day to spend with loved ones, pets or to complete important projects.


6) You experience headaches often

Above are only a small few of the side effects of being addicted to social media, the news, and other technologies. I could have extended that list further down to be completely honest with you.

There is a balance to everything in life and although I have been consistently sharing on social media for 10 years, I don’t intend on continuing. I am finding more balance out in nature, within my yoga practice, and by connecting with friends, clients, and loved ones. Not over social media, but in the flesh.

We can never get wasted time back in this life. And if we are constantly having our cell phone in our hands what will we have as regret at the end of our short time here on earth?

Six Tips to take a technology break! 

1) Turn your device off

Turn your device off when you leave your home and leave your purse (with your cell) in the trunk! I actually do this often. I began doing it to avoid texting and driving. It’s such a joy to listen to music while driving! Or, to roll the windows down and to be overwhelmed by the fresh air! Try this, you just may love it!

2) Don’t buy into the hype

Stop comparing yourself on social media to others. Seventy-five percent of what you see on social media is fake. The majority of people only share the positive parts of their lives, not the argument they had with their husband or girlfriend last week. In fact, a study was done found here proves that too much time spent on social media actually leads to more depressive thoughts. 

3) Employ the 25 rule

I have 25 people that I can actually see on social media. Even on my Facebook personal page found here that has 22,000 followers and 5000 friends. I actually have unfollowed everyone’s posts outside of my family’s. And I’ve done this for years! Trust me, it will work wonders in your life! If you need to know how someone is doing, call them up. This is what real connection is all about. 


4) Remove messaging apps from your device!

This was a game-changer for me. Messaging apps such as the ones that Facebook and Instagram provide will drain you of your time and life-force energy. When I removed these apps from my social media phone, I realized how much time I REALLY had available to me. 


5) Get a second phone and keep your social media phone off for 90% of your day!

I realize this may seem extreme but with the recent “change of terms and agreements” that many social media platforms have put in place, it’s a must in order to protect your privacy. The benefits of having one phone designated for your business and social media and then a second phone for personal use are astounding! 

I use my “tech phone” once in the afternoon and then for any client or business meetings I have. It’s generally turned off promptly at 5 pm. 

Only 12 people have my personal number. Honestly, after practicing this for a year, I wouldn’t have it any other way. 


6) Get outside 

This is the way of the masters! The bottom line is nature heals. If you’ve not mastered the skill of being in nature a minimum of one hour per day (rain or shine), there has never been a better time than now! 

Being in nature allows our cells to regenerate and our mind to rejuvenate.

Could it be this easy?

Could changing your life and improving your health really be as simple as turning your cellular device off on the weekends? For me, it’s looking to be the case.

7 Health benefits of silence and meditation.

The benefits of days of silence 

Years ago I would take every Sunday to be in nature while remaining completely unplugged digitally. Often I would utilize this day for fasting and running my errands. During times that would normally require speaking such as checking out at grocery stores and farmers markets, I would simply nod my head in gratitude. If someone did ask me a question I carried along a note with me saying “Hello, I am taking a day of silence thank you for being respectful of my journey”.
 
I grew to love those days! Before you knew it. I had carried out four years of Sundays being my day of silence.
 
Recently, I took up this healing practice again. Instead of choosing Sundays, I choose whatever day feels right to me. What I find most profound during these days of peace and harmony is the way other people react when I turn my cellular device back on the following day.
 
Some people ask if I’m OK and others leave so many messages that I stop counting at ten. A few who don’t know me well write me off as being inconsiderate for not getting back to them in a timely manner. Of course I’m OK with this because I realize it is their process to digest the pain of their abandonment, not mine.
 
I am not suggesting or telling you that days of silence will work for you as they have for me. I am simply giving you another opportunity to learn and grow from the modalities that have assisted, taught and grounded me during my spiritual growth process.
 
One of the reasons I’ve only created three detox programs is because the first detox I ever created (The Digital Detox) works SO WELL! In fact, I’ve sold thousands NEVER having had a single return. 
The digital detox is an audio of me taking you through a cleanse that I suggest you partake in for 30 days.
 
My suggestion to new clients is simple. Begin with a day of silence (spiritual cleansing) while cleansing yourself physically on a cellular level by taking advantage of my Digital Detox program.

 

7 The Health benefits of silence and meditation.

1. Increased awareness of your surroundings 

During my days of silence I am often reminded that the days become longer. The long days allow plenty of time for self-reflection. You start to become more aware of the positive and negative sides to your personality and life. I usually end up spending the entire day in my garden with my dogs. With this improved awareness I feel much more in tune with my emotions.

2. Life is happening for you, not to you.

Remaining equanimous no matter what you experience. Equanimity is accepting every outcome be it good or bad. It is the realization that life is happening for us not to us! So when you have a nice enjoyable experience you don’t cling or become attached to. Likewise, with bad experiences, you do not run from them. Accept everything as it is. Remain unattached to the outcome.

3. Nothing lasts forever

Everything you know including yourself will eventually grow old and die. All of the people in your life and all of your possessions. During times of silence you are constantly reminded of this. Realizing that your life is in a constant flux allows you to accept things as they are as opposed to clinging to the people and things in your life. It also makes difficult periods easier as you know that they will end as well.

4. A Cellular Detox from life

I observe noble silence as a spiritual practice. I don’t allow myself any electronic devices. This is such a strange and at times difficult practice as we spent our whole lives in a constant state of stimulation. Eliminating these distractions keeps all your concentration on nature, animals, the sounds of birds and your meditation practice. This lack of extra stimuli allows for a deeper focus on meditation and a much better detox.

 

5. Happiness

The range of emotions I go through during the my days of silence and unplugging was like a condensed version of an entire year in the outside world. There are many challenges.  As the day moves along I begin to realize how many awesome things I have in my life. Living like a monk you see all of the things you take for granted each day. Not being able to talk reminds you of all the great friends and family you have. The long periods of silence allow you to appreciate all of the great people and things you have in your life.

6. Learning to Fail

Practicing days of silence has taught me to accept failure. Running two businesses and two youtube channels on my own is a lot! Add two rescue dogs (one who is ill) and a boatload of clients and well… it’s tough!

With meditation you are constantly failing. The goal is to concentrate the mind by focusing on the breath. This helps quiet the mind but you are never going to go completely without thoughts, unless you reach enlightenment and this state is still impermanent. 

7. You will obtain inner peace

Each day we are trained how to remain equanimous when different situations arise. We have a choice! I find my days of silence allow me to choose not to react over reaction. This practice has helped me to observe stressful situations without reacting to them in an emotional way.

My brief disappearance ~ Going live!

aloThe energies shifted last Thursday and I was being asked to take a break. Last week I had two Mac laptops die on me. My Apple desktop would not connect to either the keyboard or the mouse. I took this as a sign to take a break through the weekend.

 1) The Grape Miracle! The Brandt Grape Cure was developed in the 1920s. I’m not going to get into the exact protocol but I am going to tell you how I use grapes below! 

  • Up until last year I actually didn’t care for them at all. I preferred more sweet tasting fruits like figs, dates and cherimoyas! Then a girlfriend of mine popped them in the freezer! WOW! My favorite treat! Took them with me today and ate 3 pounds of them yesterday! If you are going to enjoy grapes, I suggest you eat them as a mono meal! Mmm! I ♡ me some grapes:)

    2) NAPPING Taking even a 20 minute nap between the hours of noon-3pm has proven to benefit both cognitive function and bodily functions! I try to nap at least 3 times per week.     3) COLON CLEANSING The way you begin your mornings is vital to how the rest of your day will flow! Due to traveling over the last 3 days, my mornings haven’t been flowing like I prefer them to. This is why I made sure to get up early this morning to clean out my colon and start the day with my favorite lemonade! Colon cleansing is imperative in todays world! Look into coffee enemas and colonics! Be sure to find a REPUTABLE THERAPIST! They are hard to come by! Although meditation does not have the effect that my yoga practice does, I always feel calmer and more centered when I incorporate it into my flow!

    6) YOGA   The facts are in! The benefits of yoga far surpass any other exercise out there. For me, yoga is my moving meditation! Ive practiced 3-7 days per week for over 7 years now and find the benefits are long lasting for days after class. Aim for 3-5 sessions per week.

    7) SPEND TIME WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE  When we surround ourselves with people who love us and who we to enjoy being around our lives begin to just FLOW! We sleep better. We feel more motivated! We just enjoy life more and the little things that tend to bother us simply disappear! Find your tribe and keep it small~ less friends, less drama! You don’t need to have a tribe of 30 to be happy! Two or three close friends along with a positive family is sometimes enough! post1



    8) LOVE ON YOUR FURRY FRIENDS! To love is to have a dog! I truly believe this! Having pets around and the simple act of just holding a dog, cat or bunny really does reduce anxiety! With SO MANY homeless animals in this World why not adopt a pet? The health, companionship and love you will get in return will pay you back for a lifetime!      post2

7 Tips to improve the quality of your life!

 

Hi there:) I wanted to share with you a little about my story. My journey to health and happiness began out of necessity. At the time, I couldn’t walk into a Barns~N~ Noble without seeing myself on the cover of a health or fitness magazine. The pressure was high to maintain two totally different figures depending on the type of magazine I was shooting for.

In fitness, they liked you tan and toned. In the more glamour type magazines it was pale and a little plump. I developed a terrible eating disorder called bulimia and although I didn’t realize it at the time, it turned out to be a HUGE blessing!

In the midst of my disease I found myself alone at my mothers home in Ohio one night at 2am with my head in a toilet bowl. It was Valentines day and I had just ended a ten year relationship. I had been there (hovering over the toilet) for over three hours vomiting after a HUGE binge! I had drank a syrup that hospitals use to induce vomiting and it had back fired on me to the point of me blacking out. That was my rock bottom! I swore that night that I would NEVER make myself sick again!

Fast forward to today! I’m healthy, happy, have better skin than when I was twenty and I’m living out my passion helping others reach their goals in both fitness and cellular health! I’m sharing this with you because I want you to know that no matter where you are in life God has a plan for you! One thing is for sure however, the quality of your life is EXTREMELY important! In order to achieve a better quality of life you must develop the following seven healthy habits!

1) Crush the toxic conversation in your head that is saying “I’m not good enough” or “I’m broke” or I’ll never get in shape! Look if you don’t believe and love yourself where you are at right now then who will? Become your biggest cheerleader!

2) Ditch the negative people and toxic abusive relationships in your life now! How do you expect to move forward with your goals hopes and dreams? I realize that this is sometimes very hard to do especially with family or close friends. Maybe down the line the relationship can be rekindled but right now its just not a good fit.

3) Keep a schedule when it comes to eating sleeping and fitness! Have you ever seen a baby when it gets off schedule? They cry or throw a tantrum! Guess what~ we never really grew up! We too need schedules! Try to keep a journal of mindfulness when it comes to procrastination and time wasting! Keep a food journal to prevent mindless snacking. Before long you will notice your goals begin to take shape!

4) Do what you love for a living! Easier said than done, right? Sure, the nay-sayers you just cut out in tip #2 may think so but who’s to say you don’t THRIVE when you step away from the tribe! Is it true that what you are doing is for you because you went to school for it 1000 years ago? Certainly not! Maybe you’re caught up in the 9-5 rat race that has you feeling stressed or stuck? Journal and feel your way through this~ask the important questions and find the truth!

5) Workout daily! Yes~DAILY! If you think you have all the time in the world to get your body in the shape you want, think again! I like to always remind people that it’s not how long you live, it’s the QUALITY of the life you are living NOW that matters!

Alright I know what you’re saying. I don’t have the time and what about a day of rest. Nonsense! Your lymphatic system gets sluggish on its own! Besides the better you feel about yourself the more confident and better you are to this World! Ahhh I feel the endorphin rush coming on now!

6) Get adequate sleep! Try to go to bed at the same reasonable hour each night. Use things like Lavender essential oil or stress away by Young Living oils to ease away daily tension! Keep a journal of gratitude next to your bed. At the end of the day write just 5 things that you are grateful for. Make sure you turn down the lights about 2 hours prior to bed so your melatonin balance isn’t disrupted.

7) Keep your food simple! You know how you feel after you’ve visited your family at Thanksgiving? That bloated lethargic I’ve eaten enough for 17 people feeling? Whats that for anyway? It’s about being able to walk up and down stairs without heavy breathing. It’s about playing ball with your children without having to sit down and take a break! It’s about dancing all night long with your husband without feeling tired. Your life is happening NOW! If you went tomorrow could you honestly say you lived your life to the absolute fullest? If you said no and if it has anything to do with excess weight or toxicity holding you back then today is the day to start fresh!

To feel healthy on a cellular level is to experience life, people and places like a child!

7 Tips to becoming more emotionally healthy

Cultivate strong relationships~ Develop and maintain strong relationships with people around you who will support and enrich your life. The quality of our personal relationships has a great effect on our wellbeing. Putting time and effort into building strong relationships can and will bring great rewards. Studies actually show that married people live healthier longer lives! The proof is literally in the pudding!

Exercise everyday~ I’m not saying you have to become a professional body builder. The facts however are well known~exercise releases endorphins that are mood boosting! One of the best mood boosting exercises I know is to rebound! Yep! Rebounding has been proven to boost your mood! The average rebounder can be bought for around $200. Eat right! ~Physical and mental health are closely linked; it’s easier to feel good about life if your body feels good. Try to replace one meal per day with a liquid meal. I prefer my clients use the all mighty all powerful juice! This gives your body a break from digestion! Try to consume at least 75% of your fruits and vegetables in their raw natural state. Eat only when you are hungry and stop when you are 80% full. No one feels good when they are stuffed!

Challenge yourself~ When is the last time you read a book, completed a crossword puzzle or challenged yourself to memorize someones name, birthday phone number and address instead of logging it into your cell phone? Learning improves your mental fitness, it expands your brains capacity and creates a sense of calm throughout the body by shifting focus off the body.

Helping others in anyway you can is also a wonderful challenge! When I started my YouTube channel it was for that very reason! I never thought in a million years it would end up as it has where I actually get paid to do what I love! By helping others the rewards come ten fold back to us! Try it! 

Try to not take things personally~ Be aware of what triggers you and how you react. Often times we are triggered the most by those we love! You may be able to avoid some triggers simply by sitting the person down who is triggering you and having a heart to heart with them. Express how your feeling and that you need them to approach or speak to you in a different way.


Get 8 hours of sleep per night~ Get plenty of sleep. Try to set a regular bedtime schedule. Sleep restores both your mind and body. When we feel fatigued we can literally “lose it” with ourselves and those we love. No one functions well without proper sleep!

Ask for help.  A perfect, worry-free life does not exist. I find no shame in saying “I have a therapist” and neither should you!  If you don’t get the help you need first off, keep asking until you do. Therapist are like a new pair of jeans, you have to try on a few before you find the perfect fit!

Spiritual cleansing~ A seasonal detox of home and body I like to do!

Spiritual cleansing of the home and body~A seasonal detox I do:) 

White sage, a Svadhishthana candle to release “below the navel tension”, a smaller tea light candle for my meditation at Chopra and a gift to myself of my absolute FAVORITE non toxic eye cream for some puffiness. 

The sage will act as an energy clearer for my home. I will be praying as I smudge every door, window, hallway and room. The candle is to release sexual tention I’m feeling (having a strong sexual drive has always been an issue that has allowed my focus to not stay on point at times). The smaller candle I will burn every day during meditation. The eye cream….well, I deserve it:) 

Why do this? To release, let go, clear any negative energies, words or actions that have been in your space…to allow yourself the freedom of loving yourself so you may truly be honored and loved by another. 
Today I’m repeating the following mantra “I let go of the fantasy of what never was and open myself up to everything honest and true~I open myself to life, true love and happiness:)” 

Generally I like to soak in an epsom salt bath prior to the smudging of the home. I follow the smudging going into deep prayer. When I say prayer I don’t mean chanting a mantra! I mean reading Gods word directly from the bible.

I like to deal live foods only on a day when this experience is employed. One should always be mindful of needless munching and snacking. This is especially important on a day when you’re clearing space in your home and within your body!
